Don Earl Riemenschneider

Don Earl Riemenschneider was born March 3, 1926, to Louis and Lela Riemenschneider in State Center Iowa. He graduated to heaven on April, 10, 2012.

Don spent his early years in State Center. He continued his education at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and Drake with his masters in education. He retired in 1988 as the superintendent of the Boone school district.

He also had a modeling and acting career, starring in several commercials, print ads and billboards.

Don continued to work in his "retirement" as an interim superintendent for four school districts. He was 80 years old at the time of his last interim position.

His life was filled with the love of his family and friends.

Don was a man who lived life well. Everyone who knew him was a recipient of his love and wisdom. His influence was far reaching and his legacy will live on in those who were privileged to be a part of his life.

Don was married to Barbara Powers on October 20, 1975. They enjoyed 36 years as husband and wife.

Don enjoyed playing violin in the Rovers Band and with the "Terrific Trio." He also played violin on the worship team at the Boone Open Bible Church. He loved playing cards with his buddies, playing golf, camping, fishing and family get togethers.

He was a past member of the Boone Chamber of Commerce, the Iowa Association of School Administrators and the Boone Rotary Club.

He was a member of the Boone Open Bible Church where he served on the worship team and as an elder and advisor. His faith in God was strong and he gladly and openly shared his faith with his family and friends. No family dinner was complete without a blessing by "Papa Don."

Don was the best man we ever knew. God truly smiled on us all the day He brought Don into our lives. What a gift he was to us!

He was preceded in death by his mother, his father, his brother Wayne, sister Floy Steffensen and his grandson Ian Riemenschneider.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children Vidonne (Bill) Tsamis, Bob (Elaine) Riemenschneider, Kim Abbey, Kris (Dave) Toyne, Bob (Lois) Powers, Barb (Tim) Biersner and his sister, Jean Daters. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends.

Words cannot adequately express the love we have for Don. His love, faith and words of wisdom will be passed down through the generations. A life well lived, a legacy never forgotten.

Following cremation, a celebration of his life will be held Saturday April 14, at 10 a.m. at the Boone Open Bible Church, at 1224 Hancock Drive in Boone with Rev. Phil Waldo officiating. Inurnment will follow at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be Friday, April 13, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Boone Open Bible Church.

Don requested that in lieu of flowers memorials would be made to the Boone Open Bible Youth Group and the Boone Educational Endowment Fund.

Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home located at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
