Delbert DeWayne Peter, age 80, of Boone, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012 from injuries due to an automobile accident in Boone.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 22, at the First Evangelical Free Church located at 1407 Kate Shelley Drive in Boone with Pastor Daniel Grell and Pastor Wilmer Peter officiating.

Burial will be in the Squire-Boone Cemetery, southeast of Boone.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22, at the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Family will be present from 12:00 Noon to the service time at 2:00 P.M.

Delbert was born on October 20, 1931 in Boone County, Iowa, the son of Otto Louis Johann and Opal Pauline (Richards) Peter.

Delbert attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School.

Delbert served in the Iowa National Guard.

On June 15, 1952, Delbert married Dorothy Marie Ferkin in Roland, Iowa. The couple just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Delbert worked as a custodian with the Citizens National Bank, Boone High School, Lohrville High School and Belmond High School. In 1976 the couple moved to Belmond, Iowa where he worked with the City of Belmond with the water department. In the early 80's he started working at DMACC as a Maintenance Supervisor, and worked there for 10 years.

Delbert was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone, the Ham Radio Club (FCC KOGVN) in Boone and the Iowa Arboretum in Boone.

He enjoyed reading, listening to books on tape, old time country music, traveling and being outdoors.

Delbert is preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Delbert is survived by his son, David W. Peter and his wife Brenda of Ames, Iowa; his son, Randall Dean Peter of Boone, Iowa; his daughter, Dorene Elaine Geerdes and her husband Ronald Dean of Stanhope, Iowa; his son, Louis Johann Peter and his wife DeEtta of San Antonio, Florida; his son, Christopher Mark Peter of Boone, Iowa; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; his sister, Daloris Wilchek of Boone, Iowa; his sister, Berniece Moore of Independence, Iowa; his sister, Betty Paulson of Story City, Iowa; his brother, Wilmer Peter of Story City, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial is established for the Boone Garden Club, in memory of Delbert and Dorothy Peter.
