Dorothy Marie Peter, age 77, of Boone, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012 from injuries due to an automobile accident in Boone.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 22, at the First Evangelical Free Church located at 1407 Kate Shelley Drive in Boone with Pastor Daniel Grell officiating.

Burial will be in the Squire-Boone Cemetery, southeast of Boone.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22, at the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Family will be present from 12:00 Noon to the service time at 2:00 P.M.

Dorothy was born on December 5, 1934 in Roland, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lillian (Blanck) Ferkin.

Dorothy attended school in Roland and graduated from Roland High School in 1952.

On June 15, 1952, Dorothy married Delbert DeWayne Peter in Roland, Iowa. The couple just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Dorothy while living in Lohrville, Iowa, she worked as a school secretary at the Lohrville High School. Then she worked as a certified nurse's aide at the nursing home in Belmond. While living in Boone she worked at Bacon Jewelers, then was the activity coordinator at the Eastern Star Masonic Home, she later worked with Hawkeye Federal Bank as a micro copier, and Earl May Nursery in gardening sales.

Dorothy was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone, a member of the Iowa Arboretum, and past President of the Boone Garden Club.

She enjoyed growing flowers, gardening, feeding the birds and animals, shopping at different areas and collecting artifacts.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joe Ferkin and her sister Marlene; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Dorothy is survived by her son, David W. Peter and his wife Brenda of Ames, Iowa; her son, Randall Dean Peter of Boone, Iowa; her daughter, Dorene Elaine Geerdes and her husband Ronald Dean of Stanhope, Iowa; her son, Louis Johann Peter and his wife DeEtta of San Antonio, Florida; her son, Christopher Mark Peter of Boone, Iowa; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; her sister, Helen Adams and her husband Leo of Webster City, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial is established for the Boone Garden Club, in memory of Delbert and Dorothy Peter.
