Dennis R. Boyd, age 62, of Rock Falls, Illinois and formerly of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the C.G.H. Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 21, at the Boone Open Bible Church located at 1224 Hancock Drive in Boone with Rev. Phil Waldo officiating.

Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Boone Veterans Council at the Veterans Monument and Flag Pole in Linwood Park Cemetery following the funeral service.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 20, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home located at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Saturday at the church from 9:00 A.M. until the service time at 11:00 A.M.

Cremation will follow the services and burial of his cremains will be at a later date in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Dennis was born on September 5, 1949 in Boone, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Betty Lou (Carver) Boyd.

In 1967, Dennis graduated from Boone High School in Boone, Iowa.

Dennis served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked over 30 years on the railroad with the Chicago and Northwestern and then the Union Pacific. He was Engineer for the last 20 years.

Dennis was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotives Engineers.

He enjoyed HO scale model trains as a hobby and camping.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judy Oliver.

Dennis is survived by his four sons, Bryan Boyd of Boone; Jason Boyd (Cindy) of Nevada; Dan Boyd (Christy) of Boone; Tyler Boyd (Laura) of Boone; his 11 grandchildren, Hannah and Morgan Boyd of Boone; Alyssa, Christopher and Colin Boyd of Nevada and Annette and Mary Storvick of Nevada; Zachary, Logan and Addison Boyd of Boone and Harper Boyd of Boone; his brother, David Boyd (Dee) of Aurora, Colorado; two nieces and two nephews.

In memory of Dennis, memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
