Thomas LeRoy Hartman, 78, of Ames, formerly of Boone, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 18, at the First Baptist Church located at 612 8th Street in Boone with Rev. Jerry Bertelson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the service time with the family present at this time to greet friends. Burial will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone at a later date.
Thomas was born on February 1, 1934 in Boone, Iowa, the son of Ralph Arnold and Dorthea Louise (Marshall) Hartman. He attended school in Boone.
Thomas was married to Claudia Jean Reed on July 26, 1951 in Boone, Iowa.
Through the years he has lived in Boone, Waterloo, Britt and Cedar Falls, Iowa and also Casa Grande, Arizona.
At the age of 17 years old, Thomas started working with the Rath Meat Packing in Waterloo, Iowa, then worked at two other plants in Britt, Iowa then at Albert Lee, Minnesota. Thomas was the supervisor of the meat cutting department for many years, until his retirement.
Thomas was a member of the Rotary Club in Britt, Iowa and Independent Order Of The Foresters.
Thomas enjoyed fishing, gardening, and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia Hartman of Ames, Iowa; his six children, Deanna D. Sullivan and husband Tom of Bloomington, Illinois; Brenda L. Kamish and husband Frank of Moravia, Iowa; Gaile A. Ackerman and husband Allan of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Katherine L. Edsill and husband Kevin of Waterloo, Iowa; Tom Patrick Hartman of Colorado; Pamela J. Mass and husband Dennis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; his two brothers, James A. Hartman and wife Rose of Luther, Iowa and Kenneth E. Hartman and wife Linda of Peculiar, Missouri.
